The Aware Women's Action for Justice (AWAJ) works through the formation of women's collectives on a range of issues such as violence against women, sex selective abortion and neglect of girls, women's right to bodily safety and women's participation in governance.
Current Programs
Legal support is provided through Nari Adalats (Women's Courts) managed by bare foot women lawyers as well as formal judicial processes. Women members of the collectives receive training in capacity-building and leadership skills.
Women's health and gynecological issues are addressed through Women's Well being Week (WWW) and healing opportunities are made accessible as their basic right. The aim is to evolve a health perspective to enhance women's sense of well being.
