Kishori utsav – kishoriyon ke naam
Jagori Grameen conducted a two day long kishori utsav on September 9-10, 2017 in Kangra district to celebrate a special day exclusively for kishoris and create a space where learning and fun went hand in hand. Around 900 enthusiastic girls from different villages of Rait, Dharamsala and Kangra block came together and their presence and participation signified the beginning of a revolution. The halls echoed with the slogans of “azaadi” and songs aimed at gender equality, freedom from violence and celebration of womanhood. There were various performances by the Kishoris consisting of poetry, skits, dances etc. The on-going performances also encouraged many girls to come up and give impromptu performances.
A number of fun activities were conducted with each having an underlying message on the issues of gendered division of labour, health and wellbeing, Ayurveda, environment etc. A special stall called “man ki baat” was set up where various questions ranging from gender inequality to reproductive health to handling relationship problems faced by the girls were asked anonymously by them. Many girls even took to the stage to talk about what they had learnt from the event and other meetings and trainings conducted by Jagori team. The event ended on a happy note with everybody dancing to the beats of dhol.
